Description

Hot air ballooning is based on the principal that hot air rises. Heating and cooling the air inside the balloon is what causes it to rise and descend. The basket is made of the traditional wicker. It's proper name is a gondola. It supports a modern stainless steel burner that is capable of putting out at least 28 million B.T.U. of heat. When it is attached to the balloon the combined unit often stands over 90 feet high and 70 feet wide. That is why hot air balloons are called ''Gentle Giants.''

Enjoy the magical experience of gently drifting over the Rio Grande Valley in our fabulous hot air balloons. These gentle giants of the sky are available for daily flights at sunrise or sunset.

The first American balloon flight was a 15 mile 46 minute flight that took off from Philadelphia in 1793. The passenger was a small black dog and the pilot that carried a personal letter of introduction from resident George Washington. It was the first U.S. Air Mail flight.
